Church Motto

A motto is to help those outside a group know what to expect from the group and a motto is there to help the group to know what is expected of it. So the challenge was set, the congregation pondered and created, the Kirk Session selected two from the many and then the congregation chose.

The motto for Uphall South Church is:-

“To be God's love in action”

by

Welcoming - We are known as a friendly church.  Week by week we welcome new folk who come into the church, from tiny babies to older folk.  Each has a vital part to play within our church family.

Worshipping - Sunday by Sunday we worship together, using a variety of hymns old and new. Different family members help lead the service, playing, reading, praying and talking. Monthly family services allow the whole family to be together. The monthly Dechmont evening service is more meditative by nature. The joint evening services with Strathbrock Parish Church allow for a more informal style and both these services provide an opportunity for those who cannot worship on a Sunday morning. Once a month the church is open for quiet reflection on a Saturday morning. We take short service in three of the residential/nursing homes in our area on a rota basis.  Worshipping God together is vital as it provides us with the strength we need to live our lives as Jesus wants.

Witnessing - Many of our members do sterling work in our community, helping neighbours, working with charities, being Christ to those they meet at work, at leisure, and in their street.   The Open door Café run by the Basics Trust is staffed by volunteers some who come from Uphall South.  This café is a place for all to come, a place where a welcome is assured and a listening ear available. Saturday by Saturday our coffee morning provides a place for folk to come for a blether.  Holiday clubs are a favourite occupation for some of our members.  Joint with Strathbrock every August sees five days of frantic activity, followed by six weekly Saturday events for the P1- P7's.  Teenage events have also been held – the latest a football coaching week last summer.  The After School club in Uphall Primary is another joint event with Strathbrock. Along with the Basics Trust and Strathbrock Church we are seeking to employ a Youth Worker for the area.

Willing - to learn - Opportunities exist to learn more about our faith;

               to pray - a prayer diary concentrates our minds, a weekly meeting allows us to pray for those

                             who ask, for our church and community and

               to give  - of our time our talents and our money.

We are a wide and varied bunch of people.  There are 246 members and about 80 -120 of us are to be found Sunday by Sunday worshipping the living God, seeking to serve Him in all that we do throughout the rest of the week. This is borne out by a banner which hangs in the church.  Proclaiming," We will serve the Lord," it consists of all the hands of the people in our congregation - young and old alike.  Everybody traced round his or her hand, which was then cut out and put onto the banner.  It hangs as a visual reminder to us all of what we as Christians are about

being God's love in action.
